Terrafend Win Clean Technology Award at National Sustainability Awards
We are thrilled to announce that Terrafend has won the Clean Technology Award at the National Sustainability Awards 2024, in recognition of our groundbreaking Ambimization® technology. This achievement is shared with our partner Scott Bader, whose forward-thinking approach to sustainability has been instrumental in the real-world application of Ambimization®.
Ambimization®: Pioneering a New Standard for Clean Technology
Ambimization® combines mechanical engineering and proprietary chemistry, with water-based fluids being deployed through state-of-the-art machinery. It's a safer, faster, more effective replacement for traditional cleaning solvents, that also delivers immediate sustainability benefits, including the reduction of hazardous waste, VOCs and CO₂ emissions.
Harmful solvents like Xylene and Methyl Ethyl Ketone, are commonly used in the coatings and automotive industries and contribute significantly to increased operating risk, VOC emissions and hazardous waste.
Ambimization® effectively replaces these traditional solvents with non-toxic, non-flammable cleaning fluids used at ambient temperatures, benefiting employees and the planet, while still delivering operational excellence.
Scott Bader’s Northamptonshire headquarters were an early adopter of Ambimization®, replacing its acetone-based cleaning system with this sustainable alternative in its UK adhesive manufacturing facility. This change resulted in a 98.7% reduction in VOC emissions and an 80.4% decrease in waste by volume. Additionally, annual carbon process emissions were reduced by over 100 tonnes of CO2e, setting a new standard for safety and sustainability in industrial practices.
A Collaborative Success
This award is a testament to the power of collaboration. Scott Bader has been a key partner in the successful implementation of Ambimization® at their facility. "Working with Terrafend to implement Ambimization® at our headquarters has not only improved our environmental footprint but has also enhanced the safety and efficiency of our operations," said Gareth Mead, Senior Site Manager at Scott Bader UK. "By replacing acetone with a water-based solution, we’ve significantly reduced waste, lowered emissions, and made our workplace safer for colleagues."
Our CEO, Benjamin Reid, said of the partnership, "This award is not just a win for Terrafend but also for Scott Bader, whose leadership and vision have been instrumental in bringing Ambimization® to life in real-world applications. Together, we are setting a new benchmark for safety and sustainability in industrial cleaning and demonstrating how innovation can drive lasting environmental benefits."
"At Scott Bader, we are always looking for ways to innovate and reduce our environmental impact," added Dr Kevin Matthews, Scott Bader CEO. "The success of Ambimization® shows how forward-thinking collaborations can deliver meaningful change. We are excited to continue working with Terrafend to drive innovation and progress in the manufacturing sector."
Shaping the Future of Sustainable Manufacturing
